    About Me: Hi I'm Lou,

I'm happily married to my beautiful wife Linda whom I met of course, in a bowling center. We hope to start a family in the near future.

I've been bowling for 17 years. I joined the pba in early 2006 mostly because of my disdain for walled lane conditions. I enjoy the competition and have tremendous respect for the exempt players and the incredible talent and discipline they showcase week in and week out. My most memorable moment in bowling was probably my 1st 800 in 1994 while bowling for St. John's University in Columbus, OH. The worst bowling moment was when Steve Tripp doubled in the 10th frame to beat me for the Buddy Russell Classic and $10,000 top prize (254-248) in 1997. Another tough moment was losing the Lustig Labor Day Classic title against Rudy Revs in 1994 (another $10,000 loss :o( ).

    Columbia Wrath Dead Flush

    Thursday, April 17, 2008, 05:48 PM [General]

The Columbia Dead Flush is a great entry into the Columbia 300 line. I was not a big fan of the High Flush because it did not corner or recover very well. I only found the ball useful on fresh patterns if I were right of 10 or something like the PBA Cheetah. The Dead flush recovers much better yet retains the controllability of the High Flush. I find the carry to be much better than the High Flush. I don't remember the specifics of top weight, the pin was 3-4" out. The ball was drilled with the pin over the fingers approximately 5" from my PAP. CG is about 4 1/2" from the PAP.

Compared with the Rival I would say the Dead Flush goes 2-3 feet longer and is stronger in the backend on dry. On Heavy Oil the Rival will outhook the Dead Flush. Compared with the Momentum I would say the Momentum hooks up earlier and is stronger in the backend.

The Dead Flush is a great ball espescially on your typical House Pattern.

    Columbia 300 Momentum

    Sunday, December 30, 2007, 01:44 PM [General]

I don't review equipment much but I have to talk about the new Columbia 300 Momentum. I've been using Columbia since signing a regional contract in July. The Rival was the best out of the first 4 balls because of it's versatility and excellent mid lane read ability (4 balls being Wrath HF, Rival, Resurgance, and Jazz).

On December 4th the Momentum was released. I don't remember the specifics of top weight (I do not drill my own equipment). The pin is 5 1/4" from my PAP. I believe the CG was 3 or 4" from the pin and is pretty much in the center of my palm. No weight hole.

Most of my first samples of new Columbia equipment are drilled this way, some have the CG kicked out a bit more than my Momentum. I used the ball first time out during the NJ State Masters. This was a pretty flat pattern, I don't know the length but it was probably around 40 feet fairly heavy volume, pretty tough. To compare to a tour pattern I would say it was similar to the Scorpion. At first the Momentum was getting too much length so I put it in the bag for my 2 Resurgances, I switched between them with little success. I struggled mightily the first 2 games then switched to the Wrath HF and went fairly straight up 7 to stay out of trouble. Once the middle opened up a bit I moved in to 17 with the Momentum and shot over 700 my last 3 games. The ball was incredible, It gave me good length with incredible recovery in the backend. I was sending pins all over the place.

I tried it out again this evening on my local house pattern and the reaction on Saturday in the tournament was no fluke. This ball is a winner, espescially on the normal house pattern or post transition on pba patterns. I would say it may be a bit erratic on the fresh but once the lanes open up a bit it is without a doubt my new ball of choice.

    Try it out!
